PG&E Facade Proposal

PG&E has a history of including unique art and architecture at their facilities. Samples can be found all over California, from the classic San Francisco PG&E Headquarters, to the more recent Relief Mural created by Bay Area artist Scott Donahue at the Emeryville Substation. Our vision is to see a similar aesthetic value added to the neighborhood at the Oakland PG&E Substation in the West Jack London District. At present, the chain-link fence surrounding the PG&E substation at the 600 and 700 blocks, and adjacent areas without sidewalks or trees, appear lifeless and abandoned. These under-developed blocks serve as a dumping ground for unwanted garbage, such as discarded furniture, food containers, and other types of refuse. As the Jack London area continues to improve, it is time for PG&E to join the effort, by bridging the PG&E “No Mans Land” from the Phoenix Lofts at 737 2nd St. to the Cost Plus Imports building at 7th and Jefferson. Your efforts will contribute infinitely to the neighborhood, both for the residential and commercial tenants, as well as those traveling from elsewhere to enjoy the offerings of the Jack London District Neighborhood.
